Motor Vehicle Accident

brand-blue

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, seeking assessment and treatment as early as possible can help support your recovery and prevent delays in accessing the care you need.

After reporting your accident to your insurance company, you will receive an application package for Accident Benefits, including the OCF-1 form. Because there are important timelines for submitting these documents, we encourage you to contact our clinic as soon as possible following your accident.

Our experienced client services team can guide you through the process, answer your questions and help arrange the appropriate assessments and treatment to get your rehabilitation started quickly.

Depending on your injuries and individual needs, your treatment plan may include a combination of services such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, occupational therapy, driver rehabilitation, counselling and other rehabilitation supports. Our goal is to provide coordinated, personalized care that helps you regain function, confidence, and independence as you recover.

Overview of the Process

After a motor vehicle accident, some injuries are obvious right away, while others may not fully appear until days or weeks later. That’s why it is important to work with experienced rehabilitation professionals who can thoroughly assess your condition, monitor your progress, and ensure your injuries are properly documented.

Skill Builders experienced team has supported individuals recovering from motor vehicle accident injuries for over 15 year. Our team combines clinical expertise with a strong understanding of the Ontario auto insurance system, helping clients access the care they need while providing guidance and support throughout the rehabilitation process.

Auto Insurance Guidelines

Navigating insurance coverage after a motor vehicle accident can feel confusing, but our team is here to help. In Ontario, any available extended health benefits must typically be used before accident benefits are accessed through your auto insurance policy.

If you do not have extended health coverage, your approved accident benefits can be used right away to help cover the cost of eligible assessments and treatment services. When extended health benefits apply, payment may be required at the time of your appointment while reimbursement is processed.

Whenever possible, we will bill your extended health provider directly on your behalf. We also work directly with auto insurance companies for approved accident benefit services, helping to reduce paperwork and making the process as straightforward as possible while you focus on your recovery.

  • If your insurance package included a request to complete a disability certificate (OCF-3 form), bring it to your appointment and a therapist will thoroughly review and complete it with you
  • If you have extended health benefits, bring in a copy of your allowable amounts and submission form

Following your assessment, our physiotherapist will submit a recommended treatment plan to your insurance company for approval. By law, the insurance company has 10 business days to respond. We will contact you once their response is received.

What Happens Next?

Following a serious motor vehicle accident, day-to-day activities at home can become more challenging. An Occupational Therapist can assess your needs before you leave the hospital or during a visit to your home, helping to identify supports that may improve your safety, comfort and independence. This may include recommendations for attendant care, housekeeping assistance, adaptive equipment or other services to support your recovery.

Referrals may come from a variety of sources, including healthcare professionals, case managers, lawyers, or members of our own rehabilitation team. Regardless of how the referral is made, we work closely with you and your support network to ensure the appropriate services are in place. As with all motor vehicle accident rehabilitation services, our team will manage the insurance approval process on your behalf, allowing you to focus on what matters most: your recovery.
